Washing a car in summer
Remove summer contamination promptly
Insect residue, bird droppings, honeydew and resin can stain or etch paint, especially when heated. Move the vehicle into shade, cool the panel and soften residue with a compatible product.
Do not scrape with a fingernail, dry cloth or household tool. A wet, soft compress can help, but printed newspaper is unnecessary and may transfer ink.
Hand-wash sequence
- Clean wheels with dedicated tools and compatible chemistry.
- Pre-rinse and pre-clean the body to remove loose residue.
- Wash cool panels in sections with a clean mitt and lubricating shampoo.
- Use separate media for the more contaminated lower areas.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry with clean paint-safe towels or controlled air.
- Treat remaining tar, fallout or bonded deposits with the correct product.
High pressure is kept at a safe distance from damaged paint, seals and sensitive details. Household sponges can trap grit and are avoided.
Automated washing
A well-maintained wash can be practical routine care. Pre-treat heavy insects and bird residue, and choose a system whose contact media and maintenance inspire confidence.
Rain may soften residue but does not itself make a wash safer. The condition of the facility and vehicle matters more.
Convertibles and protection
Fabric roofs need material-specific cleaning and must dry before folding. Impregnation is renewed only where the roof manufacturer and condition support it.
Wax, sealant or ceramic protection can make subsequent washing easier. There is no universal two-week wash interval; use, parking and contamination determine timing.
