Polished paint is clean and free from previous protection, so adding a new wax, sealant or coating is generally useful.

Protection can make washing easier, reduce direct exposure to contamination and preserve the refined finish. It does not make paint scratch-proof or immune to bird droppings, resin and UV exposure.

A wax provides a straightforward finish, polymer or silica sealants can offer longer maintenance intervals, and ceramic coatings require more preparation and controlled curing.

Protection is not technically compulsory after every polish. A bodyshop may need the panel free from silicones, or a customer may schedule coating separately. The decision should follow the next use.
