Winter car preparation without risky home remedies
Keep glass clean with compatible products
Use an automotive glass cleaner approved for tint film, coatings and surrounding trim. Improvised methylated-spirit mixtures can leave residue or affect materials.
Treat frozen doors by the manual
Clean and dry seals, then use only a manufacturer-compatible conditioner where recommended. Baby powder and household oils are not universal solutions and may contaminate surfaces.
Find the source of cabin moisture
Remove wet mats and snow, use the approved demisting settings and inspect drains or water ingress when condensation persists.
Loose bowls of rice, salt, coffee or cat litter can spill, obstruct pedals or mask a leak without controlling humidity effectively. Use a secured automotive dehumidifier only as directed.
Keep the footwell clear
Newspaper and other loose material must never interfere with pedals. Secure correctly fitted mats and remove wet items to dry outside the vehicle.
Simple preparation remains valuable, but the safest “home remedy” is usually the correct approved product and a resolved moisture source.
