Wax is not obsolete and it is incorrect to say that it provides no protection. A quality automotive wax forms a sacrificial layer that can improve water behaviour, appearance and resistance to light contamination.

Its limitation is generally durability. Heat, detergent and frequent washing tend to reduce a wax layer sooner than many polymer, silica or ceramic systems.

Sealants use different chemistry and can offer longer maintenance intervals. Ceramic coatings demand especially careful preparation and curing, but they still do not prevent physical scratches or make automatic washing harmless.

Appearance also varies by product and paint. Some owners value the finish and straightforward renewal of wax; others prioritise the chemical resistance and easier maintenance of a longer-lasting system.

Layering products is possible only when the systems are compatible. Adding wax can alter the water behaviour of the coating beneath it and is not automatically beneficial.
