Understanding ceramic paint coatings
Automotive ceramic coatings are liquid products that cure into a thin protective layer. Many use silicon-based chemistry, but formulations and performance vary.
The common “9H” description comes from pencil-hardness testing and does not mean the coating is as hard as diamond or resistant to every scratch.
Preparation has more influence on the visible result than the coating label. The paint must be washed, decontaminated, assessed and corrected to the agreed level before application.
Temperature, humidity, application thickness and removal timing affect curing. Missed high spots can remain visible and require correction.
A sound coating can improve chemical resistance, water behaviour and ease of maintenance. Stone chips, abrasive washing, bird residue and water spots remain possible.
