Classic-car preparation

Rare models such as the Porsche 916 make preservation particularly important, but rarity alone does not define the process. Originality, previous refinishing, material condition and documentation all matter.

Minimise irreversible work

AVP identifies fragile finishes and tests discreetly before cleaning or correction. Paint thickness readings can help on suitable panels, while edges, hand-painted details and older single-stage paint need additional care.

Fine scratches do not themselves allow water to pass through intact paint and cause rust. Corrosion risk arises where the protective paint system is breached or already failing.

Agree the preservation goal

Maximum gloss is not always appropriate for an original classic. The work may prioritise safe cleaning, stabilising the appearance and documenting limits rather than removing every age-related trace.

The same considered approach applies whether the badge says Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Mercedes or something less rare.
