Check the vehicle before departure

Review service status, tyres, brakes, fluids, wipers, lights, battery condition and warning messages early enough for repairs. Follow the handbook and use the appropriate workshop for technical checks.

Verify route-specific requirements

Check current documents, insurance, tolls, environmental zones and required emergency equipment for Switzerland, transit countries and the destination. Do not rely on a generic packing list: spare bulbs, fire extinguishers and other items vary by vehicle and jurisdiction.

Load within approved limits

Place heavy luggage low and secure it against movement. Respect payload, axle, roof and towing limits. Roof boxes and trailers need compatible equipment, correct distribution and secured contents.

Keep the driver's view, controls and emergency access clear. Loose rear-seat items can become dangerous during braking.

Prepare the cabin and exterior

Remove unnecessary items, clean the glass and address spills or odour sources. Exterior protection may make insects and road film easier to remove, but polishing and coating are not travel prerequisites.

Inspect after the journey

Unload completely, clean the cabin and wash the exterior as conditions allow. Check tyres, glass, paint and visible underbody areas for damage, and respond to warnings or fluid loss through the correct technical service.
