Inspect performance before poor weather

Look for splits, deformation, hardened edges, chatter and persistent streaking. Clean the windscreen first so contamination is not mistaken for blade failure.

Clean blades gently

Follow the wiper and vehicle instructions for service position or removal. Wipe the rubber edge with a soft damp towel and a compatible cleaner, then remove residue.

Do not use fuel, solvent, undiluted antifreeze or abrasive brushes. Keep blades off ice and avoid operating them over a dry gritty screen.

Use suitable washer fluid

Choose a product rated for expected temperatures and approved for the vehicle. Check label compatibility before mixing products.

Replace by condition and fit

Replace blades when cleaning no longer restores clear wiping or when damage is visible. Use the correct type and size; flat blades are not automatically a suitable retrofit for every older vehicle.

Clear visibility is the standard, not a universal yearly replacement interval.
