Some paint systems place greater demands on polishing because of age, hardness, previous repairs or sensitivity rather than colour alone.

Older red paint can appear pale and feel rough when oxidation and contamination affect the surface. On a Corvette C3, AVP first inspected the finish and assessed its history before selecting a test combination.

Red colour does not automatically require a special “red polish”. Paint type, current thickness, oxidation and whether the finish is single-stage or clear-coated determine the process.

Soft black paint presents another challenge because it can correct quickly but also show haze or towel marks easily. A fine finishing stage and careful residue removal become particularly important.

Classic vehicles form a separate risk group. Original paint may already have been polished many times, and a thickness reading does not reveal every weak edge or repair. Restraint and preservation take priority over eliminating every defect.

Section size, machine pressure and working time are adapted to the panel and product. Unpainted plastic and delicate trim are protected from the polishing process.

AVP uses test areas and inspection under several light sources to establish what the surface can support before committing to the complete vehicle.
