Why autumn is a good time to seal your car’s paint
Gloss is often the first thing people notice about paint sealing. In autumn, the practical benefit matters most. The paint goes into the months of regular rain, moisture, road salt and grime with an added layer of protection.
What the protective layer does
A paint sealant adds a layer over the prepared finish. Road grime and salt residue can be less likely to cling to the surface. This helps when washing the car: dirt can come away more easily, so less rubbing is needed. A thorough pre-wash is still important on sealed paint.
Choosing protection for winter
The decision depends on the condition of the paint, any existing protection and how the car is used. A well-maintained finish may benefit from paint preservation. For a daily driver kept outdoors that needs longer-lasting protection, we assess whether a ceramic coating is suitable.
Autumn offers time to clean and inspect the finish and carry out any necessary preparation before the first road salt. Proper preparation is part of protecting the paint. For more detail, see our guide to paint-sealing systems and how they are applied.
