Preparing a lease return: inspect, prioritise and document

A lease return is governed by the specific return guide and the documented condition of the vehicle, not a general assumption. Normal use, accepted wear and chargeable damage can be defined differently from one agreement to another.

1. Read the agreement and return standard

Check the requirements for paint, glass, wheels, tyres, cabin, servicing and accessories early. Keep service, repair and damage records together. AVP can assess cosmetic and care-related points but does not replace legal interpretation of the contract.

2. Record the vehicle systematically

A dependable review covers paint, wheels, glass, cabin and bodywork in good light. Photograph dents, scratches, stained upholstery, pet hair, odours and damaged trim separately.

3. Separate normal wear from damage

Not every mark should automatically be repaired. A small accessible dent with intact paint may suit paintless repair; a crease or damaged coating may not. Surface clear-coat marks can sometimes be polished, while deep scratches need paint repair. Leather cleaning addresses soil, not every form of material damage.

4. Compare cost and likely benefit before work

For each measure, expected visible benefit, repair cost, available time and the return standard should align. AVP documents the assessment and agrees costs before beginning. We do not promise complete removal of every defect or a fixed saving against the lessor's later assessment.

5. Document the result and remaining points

Keep current photographs and invoices after approved work. Record any remaining damage honestly. Keys, accessories, wheels and all contractually required documents also form part of the return.
