A parked vehicle can heat rapidly in sun. Children and animals must never be left in that environment, and heat-sensitive products need equal attention.

Read the storage label

Aerosols, lighters, pressurised containers, batteries, power banks, medicines and cleaning chemicals may have maximum storage temperatures or flammability warnings. Remove them when the vehicle cannot meet those conditions.

The boot is not a universal solution

A closed boot can also become very hot. Moving a hazardous product out of sight does not make unsuitable storage safe, and a leaking or failed container can still damage the vehicle.

Check electronics and batteries

Do not use or charge devices that are swollen, damaged or unusually hot. Follow manufacturer instructions and move away from the vehicle if smoke, hissing or fire develops; call emergency services rather than handling an unstable battery.

Shade changes as the sun moves. The reliable precaution is compliant storage outside the hot vehicle, not estimating that one compartment will remain cool enough.
