“Chrome wheel” may describe plating, chrome-effect paint, a plastic cover or polished metal. The repair route changes completely between them.

Inspect coating depth and failure

Light residue or oxidation may respond to a compatible cleaner or metal polish. A scratch through thin plating cannot simply be polished away and may require specialist refinishing.

Access affects the result

Some areas can be treated on the vehicle, but thorough inner-barrel work or a complete repair may require wheel removal. That step should not be skipped merely to reduce cost.

Protect after correction where suitable

A compatible sealant or coating may make maintenance easier. It cannot hide deep damage or stop future kerb contact.
