A coating can make suitable painted bicycle-frame surfaces easier to clean and help the finish resist some environmental contamination.

Material and component limits

Painted aluminium, carbon clear coat, decals and matte finishes do not all accept the same preparation or product. A discreet compatibility test is essential.

Coating must stay away from brake discs, pads, braking tracks, grips, saddles, drivetrain parts and any surface whose friction or servicing could be affected.

Protection is not armour

Ceramic protection does not prevent impact damage, frame chips or scratches from vegetation. It can support maintenance, but mud should still be rinsed away carefully and bearing areas should not be pressure-washed.

For a valuable road, mountain or competition bicycle, manufacturer and component guidance take priority over a generic surface treatment.
