Pollen and sticky deposits

Pollen itself is usually removed through proper washing. Mixed with honeydew, resin and road film, however, it can create a sticky layer that should be softened rather than scrubbed.

Bird droppings

Remove bird residue promptly. Heat can accelerate etching, but scraping a dry deposit introduces scratches. Soak it with water or compatible cleaner, lift it gently and rinse the area.

Use paint-safe tools

Household abrasive creams, rough sponges and improvised solvents are unsuitable for vehicle paint. Work out of direct sun with clean wash media and automotive products.

Inspect after the winter wash

Once salt and grime have been removed, check for chips, exposed metal, wash marks and failed protection. Polishing is useful only where defects justify removing clear coat.

A compatible wax, sealant or coating can make later cleaning easier. It will not fill scratches permanently or replace repair of damaged paint.
