Hand or machine polishing at home is possible. The risk comes less from whether a product is inexpensive and more from contamination, excessive abrasion, poor technique and inadequate inspection.

Prepare the surface fully

Wash and decontaminate the paint before correction. Work in a clean, dry, well-lit space on cool panels. Mask fragile trim and protect sharp edges.

Begin with a test section

Use the least aggressive pad and polish likely to work, then inspect the result before repeating it across the vehicle. Small sections help maintain consistent pressure and product behaviour.

A random-orbit machine can produce controlled results with suitable training, but it is not risk-free. Hand polishing is slower and usually offers limited correction over large areas.

Stop before the paint runs out

Deep scratches, thin edges, unknown repairs, clearcoat failure and classic finishes need professional assessment. Repeating heavy passes because a mark remains can cause irreversible damage.
