Every tyre is a compromise

Summer tyres are designed for warm-weather wet and dry performance. Winter tyres prioritise traction and control in cold, snowy and icy conditions. All-season tyres combine characteristics of both, but cannot lead in every condition.

Where all-season tyres may fit

Swiss accident-prevention guidance describes all-season tyres as a compromise, most relevant for low-mileage drivers who can avoid travelling in difficult weather. Mountain routes, regular long journeys or the need to drive regardless of conditions favour dedicated seasonal tyres.

Do not rely on a simple seven-degree or minus-five-degree rule. Compare independent tests for the exact tyre model, size and intended conditions.

Check more than the label

Correct dimensions, load and speed ratings, age, pressure and remaining tread all matter. Swiss legal minimum tread depth is not the same as the depth at which winter performance remains strong.
