The windscreen is a safety-critical surface. Road film on the glass or blades can cause smearing, glare and chatter, especially in poor weather.

Clean before replacing

Glass and wiper edges can be cleaned with compatible products and a clean cloth. This often improves performance where contamination is the cause.

Blades still need replacement when rubber is split, hardened, deformed or continues to streak after cleaning. There is no useful universal one- or two-year interval because exposure and use vary.

Add protection only if it works with the system

A hydrophobic glass treatment may improve water repellency, but it must remain optically clear and compatible with the wipers. It does not replace screenwash, demisting or functioning blades.
