Paint analysis is a practical condition check before correction or coating. It is useful on an Audi, but the same principles apply to every make.

Combine evidence rather than relying on one reading

AVP inspects defects and repairs under suitable light, uses thickness measurements where the substrate permits and performs a test section. A gauge usually reads the total coating system; it does not directly reveal clearcoat reserve or chemical composition.

New paint is not automatically even, and older paint is not automatically suitable for aggressive polishing. Edges, resprays and non-metal panels require additional judgement.

Preparation determines coating performance

Coating choice follows the current product’s approved substrates, the finish condition and desired use. Surface cleanliness and preparation are more reliable than claiming a bespoke chemical match to make, model or colour.

The analysis defines what can be improved responsibly and where limits should remain visible.
