Visual inspection under direct light identifies wash marks, oxidation, holograms, deeper scratches and previous finishing residue. A test area then shows how the paint responds.

Thickness measurements provide useful information on compatible panels, particularly around previous repairs. They do not reveal every layer or guarantee that an edge is safe, so they form one part of the assessment rather than a complete answer.

Vehicle age, paint type, panel material, repair history, storage and the owner's goal also influence the plan.

With these facts, the specialist can select a machine, pad and compound combination and decide whether stronger correction is justified. The least aggressive effective method preserves more material for the future.

Paint analysis does not need to be presented as a secret or proprietary process. Its value is transparent decision-making before irreversible work begins.
