Not every scratch needs repainting, and not every defect can be removed by polishing. The first step is to establish whether the damage sits in surface transfer, clear coat, colour coat or the substrate.

Choose the least extensive sound repair

Surface transfer and light clear-coat marks may respond to cleaning or controlled correction. Deeper damage can require spot repair, component refinishing or a complete panel repair.

Colour match, edge blending, corrosion treatment and manufacturer repair requirements matter more than making the area look acceptable under one light.

Allow fresh paint to cure correctly

Protection should not be applied automatically immediately after refinishing. The paint system and repairer's curing guidance determine when polishing, film or coating is safe.
