Secure the dog and protect the driver

Swiss federal guidance says a dog must not distract or endanger the driver. A suitable transport box or solid partition can separate the animal safely from the passenger area, with enough room to sit normally and lie comfortably.

The correct setup depends on the dog, vehicle and tested restraint. Follow the restraint and vehicle manufacturers' instructions rather than assuming any generic harness, net or loose boot arrangement is sufficient.

Temperature and breaks

The vehicle climate must suit the dog. Heat can become dangerous quickly, and a parked car is not suitable accommodation. Plan water and regular breaks around the animal's needs.

Keep the interior manageable

A washable boot liner or blanket limits hair, sand and moisture. Vacuum loose hair before damp cleaning and treat odour at its source rather than covering it with fragrance.

Adhesive tape and strong deodorising sprays can damage or leave residue on materials. A material-safe interior process is preferable when hair or contamination is deeply embedded.
