Secure the animal and the system

Swiss road-safety requirements treat animals as a load that must not distract, obstruct or endanger the driver and occupants. An unsecured pet can be injured or become a dangerous projectile during braking or impact.

Use a suitable carrier, crate or restraint designed for the animal and vehicle. Secure the carrier itself according to the product and vehicle instructions; placing it loose on a seat or in the boot is not enough.

Choose by size, temperament and vehicle

A specialist retailer or veterinarian can help select the system. The animal should be introduced to it gradually before a long journey, with ventilation and enough space to adopt a natural position.

Plan breaks and climate

Offer water and breaks according to the animal's needs, health and journey length. Drive smoothly and keep the cabin within a safe temperature.

Never leave an animal in a parked vehicle in warm conditions. Shade and a partly open window do not prevent dangerous heat build-up.

Prepare cross-border travel

Check current official veterinary and customs requirements for Switzerland, every transit country and the destination. Identification, vaccination, documentation and entry rules can require advance preparation.

After contamination

Clean the carrier and affected cabin materials promptly with compatible products. Hair, biological contamination and odour may need separate treatment.
