Check the service plan early

Review manufacturer maintenance and warning messages several days before travel so that faults can be addressed by the appropriate workshop.

Tyres and load

Inspect tread, damage and pressure, including the loaded-vehicle specification in the handbook or vehicle label. Respect payload and secure luggage.

Fluids and cooling

Follow the vehicle instructions for coolant, oil, washer fluid and any model-specific consumables. Never open a hot pressurised cooling system, and do not apply one oil-check procedure to every engine.

Brakes and battery

Noise, warning lights, pulling, vibration or changed pedal feel need workshop assessment. A proper battery and charging-system test is more reliable than judging headlamp brightness or one voltage reading.

Visibility and climate

Clean the glass and lamps, inspect wipers and repair relevant windscreen damage. Check climate control before the journey, especially for vulnerable passengers or hot destinations.

Required equipment

Verify the current requirements for every country on the route, including warning equipment, documents, tolls and environmental zones.
