Fingerprints are usually a cleaning issue, but the correct method depends on whether they sit on glass, paint, a display or coated trim.

Glass and interior surfaces

Use a compatible cleaner on a clean towel and buff residue with a second towel. Displays, piano-black trim and applied window film can scratch or react to unsuitable chemistry, so they need particularly soft tools and light pressure.

Paint

Wash the area first rather than wiping dust across the finish. If an outline remains, decontamination or a mild chemical cleaner may be enough.

Polishing is considered only after inspection confirms a genuine surface defect. It should not be the automatic response to ordinary skin oils.

Sealants and coatings can make later cleaning easier, but they do not prevent every mark from adhering.
