Leather is durable and often easier to maintain than textile, but it is not one uniform material. Modern coated leather, aniline finishes, suede-like surfaces and synthetic alternatives all respond differently to cleaning and repair.

The course followed the complete workflow from receiving the vehicle to final handover. Participants first learned to identify the surface and recognise when a specialist repair should be declined.

Cleaning came before conditioning. Product strength, dwell time, brush type and moisture were adjusted to the leather and tested in an inconspicuous area. Repeated aggressive scrubbing can remove colour or damage the protective coating.

Heavy oil, ingrained contamination and crusted residue require a different process from ordinary contact dirt. The aim is an even, natural surface, not maximum shine.

Where wear or cracking justified repair, participants were introduced to filling, texture work and local recolouring. These stages demand practice because poor colour matching or excessive coating can make the repair more obvious than the original defect.

Protection was taught as an optional final stage. A leather coating can reduce dye transfer and make maintenance easier, but it must be applied evenly and remain compatible with the existing finish.

The course combined theory, supervised practice and a final assessment. One participant noted that the technical depth was significantly greater than simply wiping seats with a damp cloth, particularly when diagnosis and repair were included.
