Professional car-care school: coatings
AVP's training programme also served garages that wanted to develop their own staff and improve the consistency of work carried out in-house.
This module focused on modern paint-protection systems, historically often grouped under the term “nano sealant”. The label alone says little about a product. Silica-based sealants and coatings differ in chemistry, solids content, application and durability.
Many create a hydrophobic surface that encourages water to bead and makes some contamination easier to remove. They do not fill meaningful scratches, make paint self-cleaning or remove the need for safe washing.
Training began with preparation. The vehicle was washed thoroughly, including wheels and glass, then dried and inspected. Existing waxes, oils and residues had to be removed before any coating could bond predictably.
Where polishing was required, participants learned to match machine, pad, compound, speed and working area to the paint. Coating a poor finish would only preserve the defects beneath it.
The application stage covered section size, levelling, lighting, curing conditions and final inspection. Separate modules addressed the different systems suitable for paint, glass, wheels and interior materials.
The course remained product-independent so participants could evaluate technical data and apply the principles across several reputable brands.
A former participant reported that the coating on his own vehicle still showed a clear maintenance benefit eight months after the course. Individual durability, however, depends on the specific product, preparation, use and washing.
The two-day programme concluded with an assessment and certificate. Current course availability and content should be confirmed directly with AVP.
