• Tip 1: Check your winter tyres, including pressure, age, condition and tread depth. Swiss law does not prescribe one universal winter tread figure, but tyres must remain safe for the conditions; many specialists recommend replacing winter tyres before they fall below about four millimetres.
  • Tip 2: Do not leave the engine idling simply to warm the car. Start driving gently once visibility is clear, avoid heavy load while the engine is cold and follow the manufacturer's guidance for the vehicle.
  • Tip 3: Inspect and care for door seals before hard frost. Brittle or damaged rubber can allow moisture into the vehicle and may freeze against the body. Use a product designed for automotive seals.
  • Tip 4: Keep the glass clean inside and out, top up winter screen wash and carry a suitable ice scraper. A glass treatment can make cleaning easier, but it does not replace safe de-icing and clear visibility before every journey.
  • Tip 5: Have the battery checked. Cold weather reduces available battery performance while the engine may require more energy to start. Testing before winter provides time to address a weak unit before it fails.
