Identify the source before treating the air

Boat odour can come from damp textiles, mould, bilge contamination, sanitation systems, fuel, smoke, animals or trapped food residue. Some sources are cosmetic; others indicate a technical or health hazard.

Fuel or exhaust odour requires immediate ventilation and marine-technical assessment before cleaning. Persistent moisture and mould also need the leak or ventilation problem resolved.

Clean the affected materials

Once the source is safe and controlled, accessible textiles, hard surfaces and storage areas can be cleaned and dried. Products need approval for marine materials and confined-space use.

Fogging or fragrance alone does not remove contamination. No method is universally safe on every material, guaranteed for every odour or equivalent to disinfection.

Verify after drying

The interior should be rechecked after it has aired and dried. Deeply penetrated cushions, insulation or timber may require removal or replacement rather than repeat deodorising.
