Machine polishing uses controlled pad movement to work abrasives consistently across the surface. Dual-action and rotary machines have different characteristics, but neither is automatically right for every paint.

Hand polishing uses a suitable applicator and product for light refinement or local areas. It offers less correction and can still create an uneven finish if pressure and overlap vary.

Most modern vehicles with wash marks or oxidation are corrected more consistently by machine in experienced hands.

Hand work remains useful around door-handle recesses, tight edges and contamination requiring local treatment. Some classic paint may also justify a deliberately restrained hand process, although “old” does not automatically exclude machines.

AVP decides after paint inspection and a test area. The best process can combine both methods on one vehicle.
