Secure every item

Unsecured luggage can move violently under braking or in a collision. Swiss road-traffic rules require cargo to be arranged so it does not endanger or inconvenience anyone and cannot fall from the vehicle.

Place heavier items low and against a strong structural boundary, then use the vehicle's approved tie-down points and suitable restraints. Keep loose objects away from the driver's footwell and do not assume a folded seat or ordinary passenger belt is a universal cargo restraint.

Respect the vehicle limits

Check permitted payload, axle loads, roof load, tow limit and tow-ball load in the vehicle documentation. The weight of roof bars, box, carrier or accessories counts towards the relevant limit.

Secure contents inside a roof box and follow its fitting and speed instructions. Trailer loading must maintain the permitted nose weight and stable distribution.

Adjust before driving

A loaded vehicle responds differently. Check tyre-pressure guidance for load, headlamp levelling where applicable and visibility before departure. Warning triangle, safety vest and other required equipment should remain accessible.
