Brake dust, road film and winter contamination collect quickly on wheels. Safe removal begins with identifying the surface rather than choosing a cleaner by strength alone.

Work on cool wheels

Follow the product instructions and avoid cleaning hot wheels or letting chemistry dry on the surface. Rinse loose grit first where the approved process requires it.

Match chemistry to the finish

Painted, powder-coated, polished, anodised and bare-metal wheels can react differently. Use a cleaner explicitly approved for the finish and test uncertain or previously repaired surfaces.

A pH number or an “acid-free” label does not by itself prove compatibility. Product formulation, concentration and dwell time all matter.

Separate tools and protect nearby parts

Use soft wheel brushes and towels that are not returned to paintwork. Keep dressing and protectants off tyre tread, brake discs and pads, and rinse residue completely.

Inner barrels and removed wheels

Thorough inner-barrel work may require wheel removal. That should be carried out with the correct lifting points, torque procedure and technical competence.

Optional protection

A compatible wheel sealant or coating can make later cleaning easier. It does not prevent brake dust, chips or damage from unsuitable chemicals.

Clean as condition requires rather than following one fixed interval for every vehicle.
