How to clean smooth leather
“Smooth leather” covers several finishes, from protected pigmented automotive leather to more absorbent aniline surfaces. They do not all tolerate the same method.
Begin gently
Vacuum seams and loose grit with a soft attachment. Test an inconspicuous area, then use a product approved for the identified finish and apply it with controlled moisture.
Warm water alone may not remove oily soil, while hair shampoo is not a reliable substitute for leather cleaner and can leave residue.
Protect only where appropriate
After cleaning and drying, compatible protection can reduce friction and staining. It is not mandatory after every clean and does not form an impenetrable barrier.
AVP assesses coating loss, cracks, recoloured areas and fragile leather before treatment. Cleaning can improve the surface, but it cannot make every seat look new.
