Visible exhaust tips collect soot, road film and heat-baked residue. They need tools that are never returned to paint or interior surfaces.

Identify the finish

Chrome, polished stainless steel, black-coated trim and decorative outlet surrounds react differently. Work only on a cool exhaust and test the cleaner or metal polish in a discreet area.

Escalate abrasion carefully

Start with the least aggressive compatible method. Sandpaper can permanently alter plating, coatings and brushed finishes and should not be a default cleaning tool.

Rinse or remove product residue without contaminating nearby paint. Existing pitting, corrosion or failed coating may need repair or replacement rather than further polishing.

Detail quality comes from handling each material correctly, not from treating every dark mark as removable.
