Caring for a convertible roof
Identify the roof construction
Fabric, vinyl, folding hard-top panels, plastic rear windows and glass each need different care. Begin with the vehicle handbook before choosing a wash programme or product.
Remove loose dirt gently
Use a soft brush or controlled vacuuming in the direction of the fabric structure. For wet cleaning, pre-rinse loose particles and use a dedicated roof cleaner with soft tools.
Keep high pressure away from seams, seals, plastic windows and mechanism openings. Automated washes are suitable only where the manufacturer permits them.
Dry before folding
Allow the roof to dry fully before it is stored or folded. Closing damp material can encourage staining and odour.
Protect only when needed
Reproofing frequency follows the roof material, product and observed water behaviour; it is not automatically required after every wash. Mask glass, paint and trim, test an inconspicuous area and follow curing instructions.
Inspect seals, drains and mechanisms as part of routine ownership. Leaks or mechanical faults need technical diagnosis rather than additional dressing.
