A durable coating may need less frequent reapplication than a short-lived wax. That can reduce some product and labour use, but it does not make the system automatically environmentally friendly.

Preparation, polishing, product chemistry, packaging, energy, water, wastewater, curing, maintenance and end-of-life all matter. A six-year coating is not necessarily six times better than an annual product.

Hand washing is also not inherently lower in water or energy than an efficient automated system; measured consumption and wastewater treatment are required to support that claim.
